Interior of a Chic Lash Boutique salon location

01 / Starting Condition

Build a reliable acquisition channel from the ground up.

When Darby began working with Chic Lash Boutique in 2019, the objective was straightforward: create a Google Ads program capable of generating measurable appointment demand for the business.

Darby did not inherit an established advertising system. The account was built from scratch. At the time, Chic Lash operated a single salon location.

The goal was not simply to generate clicks. The goal was to create a paid-search acquisition system tied directly to booked appointments.

02 / Observation

A Google Ads account is never really finished.

Local search demand changes continuously. Services gain and lose popularity. Competitors enter and leave the market. Google changes bidding systems, match behavior, automation and campaign functionality. Customers search differently. Businesses expand, consolidate and shift priorities.

Darby's observation was simple: sustained performance requires sustained optimization. This account could not be launched once and left alone. The acquisition system had to evolve alongside both the market and the business.

Search Behavior

How prospective customers searched changed over time.

Competition

Competitive pressure varied by service and location.

Google Ads

Campaign tools, bidding systems and automation continued evolving.

Business Needs

Services, budgets and geographic priorities changed as Chic Lash evolved.

03 / Intervention

Seven years of continuous refinement.

The engagement has never been a single campaign launch. It is a repeating cycle of measurement and adjustment, applied across every part of the account.

Search campaigns generated 10,742 of the account's 10,800 recorded appointment conversions. This makes paid search the clear performance engine within the account.

58 additional conversions were generated through Display campaigns. Account-wide and Search-specific figures are reported separately and do not share the same denominator.

Proof / Business Value

The booking is only the beginning of the customer value.

A typical Chic Lash customer generates approximately $100 in initial value to the business. But first-visit revenue does not represent the full economic value of a new customer.

Chic Lash also generates value through repeat services, recurring customer relationships, memberships and long-term customer lifetime value.

    Lifetime Value

The economics become more meaningful when acquisition cost is considered against both first-visit value and long-term customer value. The ~$100 figure is business-value context, not a verified revenue calculation.

Proof / Longevity

Performance measured over years, not weeks.

7 Years

Continuous Account Management

Built in 2019. Still actively managed today.

Many advertising case studies focus on short campaign windows. Chic Lash represents something different: an acquisition system managed continuously across seven years.

Over that period, Darby repeatedly adapted campaign structure, keywords, bidding, budgets, geographic focus, service targeting, ads and measurement.

The cumulative performance reflects thousands of individual optimization decisions rather than a single campaign change.

Context / Footprint

The account adapted as the business changed.

1 → 3 → 2

Salon Locations Over the Engagement

Chic Lash operated one location when the engagement began, expanded to three locations at its peak and currently operates two. Google Ads supported demand generation as the company's footprint evolved.

Darby does not claim that advertising alone caused the expansion. The advertising program contributed to the broader demand environment supporting the business as it grew and later adapted. The consolidation from three locations to two reflected changing market conditions, including COVID-era impact and stronger competitive pressure affecting one location.

Currently Active Campaign Set

Enabled campaigns today support Highland Village, Montrose and microblading services, collectively generating approximately 7,089.7 conversions at roughly $4.96 per conversion and an 18.69% conversion rate.

The Larger Lesson

Optimization isn't what happens after a campaign launches.

It is the campaign.

Over seven years, the Chic Lash account changed because the business changed. The market changed. Google changed. Customers changed.

Darby's job was not to find one permanent answer. It was to keep finding the next better answer — campaign structure, keywords, locations, services, bids, budgets, landing pages, measurement.

Each adjustment was small relative to the entire engagement. Together, they produced more than 10,800 booked appointments.

Optimization is the accumulation of better decisions over time.

Your Turn

Where could continuous optimization create more value?

Sometimes the opportunity isn't launching another channel.

It's getting more from an existing one through better measurement, testing and continuous improvement.
