Eric Wing, Founder of Darby

Digital strategist, advisor, and the primary voice behind Darby’s thinking on optimization, search, AI discovery, and digital performance.

Eric founded Darby in 2008 with a straightforward goal: make digital marketing easier for organizations to understand and act on.

Over time, the work changed. Websites became more complex. Search became more competitive. Advertising platforms multiplied. Data became abundant. And now AI is changing how organizations are discovered and understood.

What began as a digital agency increasingly became something broader: a way to help organizations understand what is happening across their digital presence, identify where performance is being lost, and decide what deserves attention next.

Today, Eric works directly with organizations to evaluate digital performance, identify opportunities, and bring greater clarity to marketing decisions.

“The goal isn’t to add another layer of marketing complexity. It’s to understand what matters, improve what can be improved, and make better decisions from there.”

02The Team

Strategy may start with a point of view. The work takes a team.

Darby combines founder-led strategy with specialists who support execution, analysis, technology, content, and ongoing client work. The team is built around a shared expectation: understand the objective, understand how your work affects the rest of the system, and make the work useful.

03How We Think

A few principles shape almost everything we do.

Clarity over complexity

Marketing is complicated enough. Our job is to make decisions easier to understand, not bury them in terminology.

Evidence over assumptions

We look for what the data, behavior, and environment actually support — including when the answer is inconvenient.

Connected systems

Search, content, advertising, websites, conversion, and data influence one another. We try to understand the relationships, not just the individual tactics.

Practical guidance

A recommendation only matters if an organization can realistically act on it.

Long relationships

Much of Darby’s work is measured in years, not campaigns. That creates context, continuity, and a better understanding of how organizations actually change.

Continuous improvement

Digital performance is rarely finished. Markets change. Search changes. Technology changes. Organizations change. The work is to keep learning and improving with them.

04Since 2008

Built to evolve.

Darby began as a digital marketing agency. That made sense for the internet of 2008. Over the years, the work expanded across search, websites, advertising, analytics, content, infrastructure, and strategy.

But the most important change was not the number of services. It was the way we began looking at the work. The more connected digital marketing became, the less useful it was to treat each discipline as an isolated deliverable.

Today, Darby is moving toward a broader optimization model: understanding how the pieces work together, identifying where improvement matters most, and using the right capabilities to create measurable change.

2008

Darby is founded.

A digital agency focused on helping organizations navigate a rapidly changing online environment.

Evolution

The work becomes more connected.

Search, websites, advertising, content, analytics, and strategy increasingly become parts of the same performance system.

Today

From digital marketing to optimization.

Darby increasingly focuses on understanding performance, identifying opportunities, and helping organizations improve the systems behind their digital presence.

05Perspective

The work also raises bigger questions.

Search is changing. AI is changing how information is interpreted. Websites increasingly serve both people and machines. Marketing performance depends on systems that are becoming more interconnected.

Darby Insights is where we explore those changes more deeply. Our current featured collection, The Internet Is Becoming an Intelligence Layer, examines how AI may be changing the relationship between people, information, authority, search, and the internet itself.
